Green is not only associated with energy efficiency and resource conserving.

My mission is to help you save as many of those "greenbacks" as you can -
I'm sure you can find plenty of other places to invest them!

We'll take a look at some ways you can save on energy costs- particularly while heating that home of yours this winter.

Many folks either own a fireplace or would like to have one installed. But where do you begin in deciding what is the best choice for your situation?

I'd like to help you out.

A lot of research has gone into building out the Fireplace section of this site - and soon you'll be able to learn about gas, wood burning and electric fireplaces - all in one location!

Most of us love the peaceful feel, crackling embers, and dancing flames of a fire in the heart of our home. But we also want safety and energy efficient heat while we relax in front of the fire.

Energy $aving Tip of the Month

Phantom Energy Suckers

Are you shivering in your shoes this winter - inside your own home? Afraid to turn up the heat because your electric bills have gone through the roof?

Besides following the advice on our how to save energy pages, consider this little known tip.

Every appliance, unit, cell phone charger, heating pad, or other electrically powered device sucks up energy even while not in use. Did you know that?

It's true.

You're paying for the mixer you aren't using, your TV and cable that you're not watching at the moment, your cell phone charger that's plugged into the wall (while your phone is in your pocket), and many other items you may not even think about.

Begin to get into the habit of unplugging items not in use - even if you simply do this each night before you go to bed.

Do you use your water heater 24/7? You're being charged for heating your water all the time unless you install a timer on it. It's simple to do and can save you much over the course of a year.

Do your own experiments and tell me how you save energy - we would all love to know!

In addition, snag more top tips about home energy savings and grab helpful ideas on stretching your dollars until they scream for mercy.

Quote of the Month

We grow great by dreams. All big men are dreamers. They see things in the soft haze of a spring day or in the red fire of a long winter's evening. Some of us let these great dreams die, but others nourish and protect them; nurse them through bad days till they bring them to the sunshine and light which comes always to those who sincerely hope that their dreams will come true.

Woodrow T. Wilson (1856-1924, Twenty-eighth President of the USA)
