What's the big deal about a Home Foundation?
If you are currently experiencing issues with your foundation, you already know the answer to that question. If you are building a new home anytime in the near (or distant) future, you'll want to choose carefully!
I've noticed consistently that my foundation web pages are among the highest searched pages month after month after month.
The foundation of anything (your home, your life, your work) is a critical component to long -term success and stability of any structure or entity.
Because of this, every moment spent thinking, planning, and evaluating in advance - and hiring a qualified crew to build or repair - are absolute "musts" for best results!
Check out this Home Foundation Hub for pictures, questions to ask to help you determine the best choice, pros and cons, etc. of this all important home choice!
P.S. - The links at the bottom of each page are there for your convenience - digging deeper can turn up some golden nuggets for saving you time, money and excess digging on your own.
Be sure to also bookmark this site and keep your eye on it - new pages are being added consistently to help you live better and save more!
Green Product Review of the Month:
Pier Foundation to Save Trees?
Most folks have never heard of this - but the truth is, building a pier foundation isn't just for those who live near the water - it can also be an option for you if you have beautiful trees you don't want to destroy in your building process! See the Pier Foundation page for more details and options for your project.
* Be sure to read about the insulation requirements so you won't wake up to small unwanted guests!
If you're anything like me, I hate the thought of taking out gorgeous trees just to build a home. Perhaps this is your answer!
A slab foundation is another option - a lot depends on the area, climate and soil conditions of your area. Check out the pros and cons by clicking the link above.
Basement foundations are enormously popular - for a multitude of reasons. There is an entire section of the site dedicated to basements, so "dig in" and find what you're looking for!
Note: The link above provides the overview for the remainder of the section.
Energy Saving Tip Of The Month
Basement Blessings + We want YOUR Tips!
Our basement is a good 10-15 degrees cooler than the upstairs living space. This makes it nice downstairs for teaching or washing laundry, but the upstairs tends to stay very warm during the summer months (unless the A/C is running full steam and racking up an outrageous electric bill).
What is the solution?
Well, my son (who has worked in heating and air for years) decided to cut a return vent in the basement to send the cool air upwards, thus potentially saving untold dollars in the future.
If you have a similar scenario in your home, you might check into the possibility of routing cooler air upstairs. A whole house fan can help, as probably would a large fan blowing from the basement area up to the living room area. Use your creativity, talk to an expert or two, and cut those heating and cooling bills down to size!
What is YOUR favorite energy saving tip?
Let's share our favorites and help each other save on those pesky energy bills this year.
Go to the How To Save Energy page and scroll down past the Top Ten Tips. Then leave us your favorite and share it with the world! (Leaving your name is optional)
Let's help each other stretch those dollars until they SCREAM for mercy!
