Building your green home: Valuable time, money and energy-saving info from a homeowner like you

Why all of the buzz about building green?

What does building your green home really mean?

Almost daily, it seems, the internet news points to yet another green article or video from the landing homepage.

Have you noticed a green theme in Yahoo and MSN in the last few months?

As a homeowner like you, I was naturally curious about this trend when I thought about the prospect of a new home. Some 10 years earlier, I had helped to design a non-toxic home, primarily because of a son with severe asthma.

Well, a lot of time had passed since those days.

I assumed that traditional building practices were beginning to catch up with the times, that the "greening of America" was rubbing off on the industry.

Building materials used today would certainly have minimal negative human impact compared with what was standard 10 years ago, right?

Wrong.

I was stunned to discover that toxic building materials are standard fare even in this new millennium.

I intended to build a nice house as economically as possible. What my extensive research uncovered changed my plans, my approach, my time schedule and my life.

How did I make my journey from generic to green?

It started when I went looking for a website that offered quality information, including pros and cons, about green products and systems from a home owner's perspective.

I didn't find exactly what I was looking for.

My current quest is to make sure that you do.

Feel Like You're In A Time Crunch?
